In the summer of 2018, Solve For XX launched its first Hackathon in Kampala, Uganda, offering over 100 women access to life-changing, skill-building workshops, trainings and experiences designed by Ugandan women, to advance Ugandan women in the world.

In Uganda, more than 50 percent of the country lives in  poverty, lacking access to education, resources and employment opportunities. Of those living in poverty, women remain disproportionally impacted and severely under represented in industries like tech. Often times, even when women work in a tech-related field, they are at a disadvantage, with recent estimates suggesting that less than 1 percent of Ugandan women own their own computer.

Through these locally-led, innovation-driven hackathons for social change, we develop practical, sustainable, culturally relevant solutions to solve gender-based issues related to employment, leadership, education and access in communities around the world.

In 2019, we head to Zimbabwe to work with Zim Girls Code.

Despite the fact that 52 percent of the population in Zimbabwe is female, the majority of children enrolled in school are male.

For $250 USD, one Solve For XX student can be sponsored with a full scholarship to the 24-hour Solve For XX program. Please consider making a donation to our partner organizations and help make this life-changing opportunity possible. Email to learn how to sponsor.
